Enel Distribución Perú contributes to Peru’s sustainable economic development through programmes and projects that seek progress in communities by supporting the professional development of young people so they have better opportunities in the labour market.

Pachacútec Technological Institute

Since 2003, Enel Peru supports the Industrial Electrotechnics degree of the Pachacútec Technological Institute, located in the district of Ventanilla, through the creation of development opportunities for young people with limited resources from the northern part of Lima and Callao, who wish to develop professionally. These young people study for three years and graduate as professionals in Industrial Electrotechnics with a degree recognised by the Ministry of Education, which helps them obtain a decent job position with good conditions and growth opportunities in the energy sector and work as collaborators of Enel Distribución Perú’s contractors. This faculty already has 242 alumni, 91% of which were already incorporated into the labour force, thereby creating shared value for society and the company.

As part of our commitment to sustainable development, Enel Generación Perú creates programmes in communities outside the city with the aim of teaching how to handle resources to optimize economic development.

‘Café Curibamba’ Productivity Programme

We created this programme for 115 rural families from the Tulumayo river valley, who live near the operation area of Enel Generación Perú, with the aim of improving their quality of life and promoting equality of opportunities for their children, by increasing their income through crop development, standardisation of crop quality and the care for the environment.

All of this was possible thanks to the training, materials and supplies provided by the programme, which allowed coffee growers to produce greater quantity of high-quality coffee, and introduced it successfully into the most demanding global markets with fair prices per batch.

As a result of the programme, a group of 45 producers formed the Cooperativa Agraria de Cafés Especiales Curibamba (Agricultural Cooperative). This cooperative sold 4 thousand kilos of parchment coffee on its first year, obtaining revenues of more than 40 thousand soles.

Productivity Programme for the Breeding of Guinea Pigs

This programme seeks to increase the intake of proteins in family meals and promote local economic development. 21 women of rural communities near our company’s operation area participated in the programme.

The participants receive technical instruction for the breeding of guinea pigs and preparation of dishes, which has increased the local consumption of guinea pig’s meat by 300% after conducting the programme for 2 years.

In addition, participants sell guano produced by these animals for the fertilisation of coffee crops, thereby increasing participant’s annual household income by 51%.

The programme has caused a great impact on the strengthening of women’s leadership skills and their economic independence, as well as on the promotion of teamwork.
