The power station, which took two years to build, is the first combined cycle plant in Peru: it works on fuel and steam. It is also the first to use natural gas coming from the Camisea deposits.
It is the most modern and efficient thermoelectric power station in the country, and the one with the highest capacity. Its construction required an investment of 135 million US dollars.
