- Starting today, the interoperability service will enable Enel X users to charge their electric vehicles on a network of 6,000 charging points, of which more than 800 in Europe outside of Italy, through agreements with SMATRICS and IONITY.
- The charging points of this interoperable network are located in: Italy, Austria, Belgium, the Czech Republic, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Hungary, Ireland, the Netherlands, Norway, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, the United Kingdom.
Rome, June 25th, 2019 - Enel X electric mobility services take on Europe: from today, with the X Recharge app, it is now possible to charge anywhere on a comprehensive European network of more than 6,000 charging points, of which over 800 outside of Italy, a number which is set to grow to 1,600 by the end of 2020. This milestone was reached through the agreements signed by Enel X with SMATRICS and IONITY, two of the leading operators of electric vehicle charging networks in Europe.

Consequently, looking ahead, we plan to expand the interoperable network through our agreements with IONITY and SMATRICS as well as opening up to new partnerships with other charging network operators.”
The agreement will allow X Recharge app users to charge their electric vehicles anywhere on IONITY’s European network without having to sign new contracts. IONITY’s European network already has over 100 stations, with the aim to reach 400 by 2020, each with 4 to 12 charging points using the most powerful technology currently available, of 350 kW per charging point, in compliance with the European charging standard CCS (“Combined Charging System”). These 350 kW charging points can “fill up” current and next generation electric vehicles faster than any charging point currently available on the market and up to seven times faster than the average charging point. Similarly, the SMATRICS network has 450 charging points, of which 250 fast points (starting from 50 kW) installed throughout Austria. In both cases, Italian customers will be able to use the X Recharge app to view information on the location of the stations, the available power, the type of connector, real-time availability, access methods and prices.
The charging points of the interoperable network that Enel X has developed in partnership with IONITY and SMATRICS are located, as of today, in: Italy, Austria, Belgium, the Czech Republic, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Hungary, Ireland, the Netherlands, Norway, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, the United Kingdom.
These two agreements stem from two existing cooperations. Enel X and IONITY are building 20 high-power charging stations in Italy. The partnership with SMATRICS is the result of the European EVA+ Electric Vehicles Arteries project, co-financed by the European Commission, for the installation of 200 charging stations of 50 kW each in Italy and Austria on long-distance extra-urban routes.
The interoperability agreements are a structural component of the Enel X mission to create charging solutions for all types of use (home, office, transit) that are immediately accessible throughout Europe through a single point of access: the X Recharge app.
