Little Xiomara is not passionate about the numbers that mom has always loved. “It’s the ugliest and most boring thing ever!” she says, as Rocío Chicoma, who is in charge of Market's budget control, smiles.
Aware that the expense and investment distribution that will generate benefit for Enel Peru depends on her, she takes her girl’s words easy and smiles even more when she remembers how Xiomara scratches her head when she tells her about her day. “It's too difficult!”, the little one says. “I believe that you will get to like it”, says Rocío. The accountant started as an intern 17 years ago and today is a commercial management analyst in the Commercial Planning and Management Department.
“I am in charge of monitoring the budget progress and management of all the Market Department. I check how departments spend their budget and make sure that they do not exceed the established limits”. Her objective? “Demonstrate that we are able to control our expenses and deliver improvements, in order to reach the company’s goals”.
Her objective? “Demonstrate that we are able to control our expenses and deliver improvements, in order to reach the company’s goals”.
For this purpose, sometimes Rocío must make decisions that more than one colleague does not like. “Sometimes I have to make budget cuts. I receive an order from Management and I have to check who has not been sticking to the budget planning. Those numbers go to the Planning Department”. That is why there are those who, with humour and affection, call her “Rocío Scissorhands”.
She is satisfied that her work keeps her in touch with internal clients. Being at their service is another of her goals, she says, and so is to get little Xiomara to fall in love with numbers.
