The digitalization has favored the evolution of different industries and the electricity sector is not the exception. Thanks to the technology, the production, distribution and electricity consumption processes have been transformed. Nowadays, the power plants can be monitored in an automated way from control centers, bringing reliability to the system.
The use of modern software allows the analysis of data in real time, providing solutions in short and median term. In addition, this innovation is key to reduce the supply interruption times and to provide optimal service. Aware these technological advances in the industry and its importance in the growth of the sector, we present SET Medio Mundo, our first digital substation of electrical transmission in the country.
How does this project work?
The Substation of Electrical Transmission (SET) Medio Mundo is the first facility of Enel in Peru with digital control and protection system. This technology provides more accuracy and reliability in the measure system. It also gives more efficiency in the monitoring, controlling, operation and maintenance works. ¡This is possible thanks to the fact that we can process the information in record time!
With its initiation, the energy is transformed. SET Medio Mundo converts the levels of medium voltage into low voltage. In addition, with this project we significantly reduce our carbon footprint. By replacing the cooper cable with the optic fibre one, we also diminish the usage of transportation space, equipment of heavy cargo transport and CO2 emission. By this way, we enlighten more Peruvian homes with an efficient and environmentally-friendly service.
Digital transformation at the service of the country
In Enel, we believe in promoting energy projects that benefit the development of the sector and society. SET Medio Mundo, beside of being an example of digitalization in the industry, will provide energy to the archaeological site of Caral, oldest cradle of civilization in America and Cultural Heritage of Humanity. With this, this facility not only favours our 100 000 clients in Huaura and Barranca, but is as well a tourist and cultural sector ally by enhancing the attraction of the place and reinforcing its value.
This initiative is example of the energy we invest in building modern and sustainable electrical models. The digital substations permit an important reduction of the maintenance hours, the suspensions of the supply, risks for electric contact and carbon emission. They are the future of the energy industry as they are safer and eco-efficient.
By putting in motion ventures of such importance and impact, we reaffirm our commitment with the development of the country, where the improvement of the energy sector has a main role. By this means, we will continue implementing new technology that overcomes the current ones in performance and benefits and, by this, to get close to a reality where the distribution of energy is more efficient, innovative and sustainable.
