To acknowledge that we all are responsible of the home chores is a big step towards gender equity.
In Peru, women work overtime 24 hours a week, compared to men (INEI 2019). This work increased 4 more hours during the quarantine. (MIMP 2020)
It is important to recognize the difference between “helping at home” and doing our part.
To use the word "help" in any situation means that we collaborate with another person, we help them in what corresponds to that person and not us; promoting the idea that they are the only people in charge of domestic work.
To change this situation, we could begin to understand that all the people who inhabit a home are jointly responsible for taking care of it, as well as for correspondingly attending to the needs that arise there.
The whole family can put gender equality into practice, regardless of age or gender, because all of us are jointly responsible for the maintenance and cleaning of the space we inhabit and share together.
