Lima, November 11th, 2020. In order to increase the capacity and reliability of energy transmission in the west side of Lima, Enel Distribución Perú activated the L-6153 underground high-voltage transmission line between the Electric Transmission Substations (ETS) Malvinas and Pershing. The transmission line is 6.22 km long and required an investment of 30 million soles.

This underground high-voltage transmission line is located between the districts of Cercado de Lima, Breña, Pueblo Libre, and Jesús María, and will benefit about 40,000 clients in the concession area of Enel Distribución Perú.

"This is the most important high voltage line that we have been running since March 2019. Its activation will improve the quality of the electrical service and help us meet the growing demand generated on the west side of Lima. It is also worth mentioning that it is the third most extensive high voltage line in our underground network", said Javier Villavicencio Montenegro, Head of the High Voltage Construction Unit of Enel Distribución Perú.

The construction of this underground transmission line involved important challenges. One of them was the strict quarantine due to the COVID-19 pandemic, which temporarily paralyzed the operation to protect and safeguard the integrity of the personnel in charge. In July, operations resumed through a plan developed by Enel Perú that followed strict biosafety measures and controls, and it was in this way that the operation was completed.
