Lima, 19th, 2020. Enel Perú, through its division Enel Green Power Perú, has been digitizing the maintenance of its renewable energy plants with the integration of disruptive tools such as drones, artificial intelligence (AI), and augmented reality glasses.

For Enel Perú, the crisis caused by the COVID-19 pandemic has been a motivation to find new ways to carry out new tasks. It is in this way that we have had the opportunity to rapidly materialize a series of digitalization projects, such as the operation of generation plants and distribution facilities via remote control, or the implementation of new tools that facilitate our approach to clients and that have surely mitigated the losses generated in our sector.

This context has brought significant challenges for our generation facilities, one of them being the operational restrictions for outside personnel to carry out maintenance on the plants. In this way, the Operations and Maintenance Team managed to design, program, and evaluate the data obtained from drone inspections through platforms that use AI. Thus, in August of this year, the inspection of more than 566,000 solar panels at the Rubí photovoltaic solar plant, the largest of its kind in the country, was completed.

Furthermore, the Smart Glasses at the plant are used by supervisory personnel and have brought multiple benefits to their work. These devices make it possible to obtain remote input from experts worldwide, so it is not necessary to make trips that pose a security risk and a significant cost.

The team at Enel Green Power Perú will continue to incorporate this technology in other plants, ensuring the reliability of the wireless network required to monitor and improve operations and maintenance.
