Lima, December 5th, 2019. – Since November 15, Enel Distribución Perú has been carrying out operations at the new Izaguirre Electric Transmission Substation (SET), located in the San Martín de Porres district. This infrastructure represents an approximate investment of 42 million soles and will improve the electrical service of about 110 thousand customers, in addition to meeting the energy demand of large stores such as Megaplaza and Plaza Norte.

One of our priorities is the permanent improvement of the quality, safety and reliability of the electrical service in Northern Lima through our work,” said Javier Villavicencio Montenegro, head of the High Voltage Construction Unit of Enel Distribución Perú. "Operations began in September 2018 and, to date, we have accumulated more than 100,000 man-hours with zero accidents", he added.

The Izaguirre substation only occupies an area of 1109 m2 (approximately one-third of a conventional substation), which is ideal for large cities such as Lima where it is difficult to install these infrastructures due to the high demand for land. In addition, it has a 60/20/10 kV 40 MVA power transformer that optimally processes the received energy. Izaguirre is powered by high voltage energy thanks to the new 2.3 km long 60 kV underground transmission line, built with Tunnel Liner technology that allowed the North Pan-American Highway to be crossed without interrupting traffic as it was built seven meters deep from the road.

This work has developed using state-of-the-art technology, as it makes use of encapsulated cells with GIS technology, which occupy smaller spaces, facilitate optimal installation times, and increase reliability since they do not require frequent maintenance.

Enel Distribución Perú is an electrical company of the Enel Group, an Italian firm with presence in over 34 countries. It has 1.4 million customers in Northern Lima, Central Lima and the Near North Coast of Lima.
