Enel and PNP dismantle clandestine connections maintained by plastic factories in Comas

• The stolen energy could have benefited over six thousand families in the area.

Lima, December 18^th, 2019. – Today, Enel Distribución Perú and the Peruvian National Police (PNP) carried out a joint intervention in the Tambo Río area, in the district of Comas, to dismantle the underground and aerial electrical connections that two plastic factories maintained clandestinely, thus threatening the safety of the neighbors.

This operation was carefully planned with the help of the PNP, as it took place in a high-risk area. This way, it was possible to permanently disconnect seven energy supplies located in the same passage, all of which illegally fed these plastic smelting factories.

“As in other joint operations carried out with the police, we have demanded the immediate arrest of those responsible. Clandestine connections are a threat to the safety of people, especially during periods of high energy consumption such as New Year celebrations. We urge the population to report any similar cases by calling our toll-free Fonocliente at 517-1717, so we can eradicate this type of risk in their neighborhoods,” said Karen Manrique, representative of Enel Distribución Perú.

The energy theft had put the nearby residents at constant risk of fire or electrical accidents. Similarly, it negatively affected the electrical service of the area because the consumed energy could have benefited more than 6 thousand families. This crime affected the quality and continuity of the electrical service that Comas customers received, as the networks were overloaded.
