Lima, October 29th, 2019. – Today, Enel Distribución Perú and the Peruvian National Police (PNP) carried out a joint operation in a plastic factory located in the Breña district to dismantle electrical connections that this factory maintained illegally, thus threatening the safety of the population.

“It is essential to eradicate these types of connections, which not only overload the power grid but also represent a latent fire hazard for the neighbors. Also, this operation has allowed for an energy recovery equivalent to the consumption of more than 1,000 families. We will continue working to detect and intervene any installations that threaten the safety of people and the continuity of the service", said engineer Karen Manrique, representative of Enel Distribución Perú.

In this operation, which was the sixth one successfully carried out by the company, it was found that the plastics factory had altered three tri-phase meters in its connection to steal energy. This is a very complicated theft maneuver, which requires a thorough investigation by the company's engineers.

The representative of Enel remarked that the Criminal Code classifies these cases as Crimes Against Patrimony, under the modality of electrical energy theft. In that sense, he urged the population to report them by calling the toll-free Phone Client at 517-1717.

Enel Distribución Perú is an electrical company of the Enel Group, an Italian firm with presence in over 34 countries. It has 1.4 million customers in Northern Lima, Central Lima, and the Near North Coast of Lima.
