Lima, September 18th, 2019. – During the conference “Understanding the Global Renewable Energy Environment and the opportunities for the mining industry” in PERUMIN, the Country Manager of Enel Peru, José Manuel Revuelta, presented various renewable energy solutions that target the mining sector.

"There are important renewable alternatives for the mining sector that can provide energy through special supply contracts, as well as storing it in large-capacity smart batteries that we will soon release into the market," said Revuelta. "These options can be efficiently incorporated into the energy purchasing structure of any mining company, helping them to achieve green goals without the need for large capital investments," he added.

Taking into account the general concern for climate change, mining companies and their clients are migrating towards renewable energy, due to its lower cost and the resulting reduction in emissions.

Migrating to renewable energy is a global trend. It is estimated that by the year 2040 41% of global energy consumption will be renewable. However, Peru still has a significant shortcoming in energy consumption compared to other developed countries, since its average consumption is 2000 kWh/year/inhabitant, while OECD countries have a rate of 8081 kWh/year/inhabitant, meaning there is a significant development opportunity.

In the same way, our country has great potential for solar and wind energy development. Currently, Enel already manages the two main plants of these classes, which are Rubi, a solar plant that generates 440 GWh per year benefiting 351 thousand homes, and Wayra, a wind farm that produces 660 GWh per year and benefits 483 thousand homes.
