Enel runs operation along PNP to dismantle clandestine electrical connections

  • Enel Distribución Peru and the Peruvian National Police (PNP) intervened a plastic melting factory maintaining clandestine electrical connections in San Martin de Porres.

 

Lima, September 5th, 2019. – Enel Distribución Peru and the Peruvian National Police (PNP) ran a joint operation to intervene a plastic melting factory in San Martin de Porres, in order to dismantle underground electrical connections that said factory maintained illegally, threatening the safety of the nearby residents.

“As in other joint operations with the Police, we will demand the immediate arrest of those responsible. It is essential to eradicate these clandestine connections, which represent are a threat to people and the environment. We will continue to run this type of interventions during the next months and we call on the population to report similar cases by calling our toll-free Phone Client at 517-1717”, said engineer Karen Manrique, representative of Enel Distribución Peru.

This energy theft put the nearby residents at risk, exposing them to fires and electrical accidents that could occur at any time. Additionally, these clandestine connections generated pollution, damaging the environment.

In the same way, this energy theft had a negative impact on the electrical service in the area, on account of this plastic melting factory consuming an amount of energy that could have benefited 1,200 families. Similarly, energy thefts affect the quality and continuity of the electrical service received by customers in the area, since the local networks were being overloaded.
