Lima, September 26th, 2019. – Enel Distribución Perú is now implementing high voltage underground lines to interconnect the Malvinas electrical substation, located near Argentina Avenue, with the Tacna and Pershing substations, which are located in Central Lima and Jesús María, respectively. Thus, power continuity in Central Lima and surrounding districts is guaranteed.

These works, which will conclude on April 2020, reach up to a total investment of S/ 41 million and benefit about 50,000 inhabitants of Lima, mainly in the districts of Cercado, Breña, Jesús María, Magdalena del Mar and Pueblo Libre. These projects are especially needed in the historic center, where existing networks have many years behind them and it is necessary to increase their reliability.

No-disturbance works

The Malvinas-Tacna underground line was built using Liner Tunnel technology, which allowed for a 50-meter-long travel space underneath Alfonso Ugarte avenue (at 8 meters deep) without interrupting the vehicular traffic in the area, nor the Metropolitan service.

Additionally, the restoration works for the Malvinas transmission line (which was affected by a third-party fire below Lamsac’s Viaduct 5 bridge) are being carried out with the help of drones that facilitate and expedite the laying of the line, substantially reducing working hours and traffic interruptions, and managing to accomplish a whole day-worth of work in less than an hour.

Enel Distribución Perú is an electrical company of the Enel Group, an Italian firm with presence in over 34 countries. It has 1.4 million customers in Northern Lima, Central Lima and the Near North Coast of Lima.
