Lima, September 24th, 2019. – Today, Enel Distribución Perú and the Peruvian National Police (PNP) conducted a joint operation in a plastics smelting factory in Puente Piedra district to dismantle the underground electrical connections that this factory maintained illegally, thereby threatening the safety of the population.

“It is essential to eradicate these types of connections that not only overload the power grid but also represent a latent fire hazard for neighbors. Furthermore, this operation has allowed for an energy recovery equivalent to the consumption of 1400 families. We will continue working to detect and intervene any premises that threaten the safety of people and the continuity of the electrical service", said engineer Karen Manrique, representative of Enel Distribución Peru.

This is the fourth operation successfully conducted by the company, which has also allowed for the identification of other infractions committed by the establishment. We will also contact the Ministry of Environment so that it can verify if this factory complies with the respective regulations and whether or not it is not generating environmental pollution in detriment of the health of the nearby residents.

The representative of Enel noted that the Criminal Code considers these cases as Crimes Against Heritage, under the modality of electric energy theft. In that sense, she urged the population to report these types of cases by calling Enel’s toll-free Fonocliente at 517-1717.

Enel Distribución Perú is an electrical company of the Enel Group, an Italian firm with presence in over 34 countries. It has 1.4 million customers in Northern Lima, Central Lima and the Near North Coast of Lima.
