Lima, February 27th, 2019. – The emergency teams of Enel Distribución Perú were able to reinstate electrical service to 95 families located within 6 communities of Santa Rosa de Quives district in the province of Canta after the intense downpour and landslides ravaged the area and left the mini hydroelectric power plant that supplied them with energy out of service.

The affected communities at that time were Picchu Pichu, Yaso, Hans, Piedra Blanca, Apan and Fundo 25. According to the corporation, the continuous landslides registered since this weekend provoked the overfill of the water intake of the Yaso Central, which, following safety protocols, forced the suspension of its operations. In consequence, it was promptly decided to enforce a charge transfer, so that the area can be supplied with energy from the Canta mini hydroelectric power plant, which has an interconnected electrical circuit and its located upriver.

“The rain season threatens the quality of life of countless people in our country, especially in the areas declared in a state of emergency, such as the province of Canta. On our part, we reiterate our commitment to continue working in the safest and most efficient way to provide our clients with electrical service despite any adversities, and, in such manner, lessen in some extent the difficult situation people are going through”, pointed out engineer Brussy Cepero, representative of Enel Distribución Perú.

It is also worth mentioning that, after inspecting and evaluating the safety of the area, Enel’s staff began cleaning works of the water intake and the canal this last Sunday. Nonetheless, that same day strong downpours and landslides reoccurred in other zones of the 1.5 kilometers long water canal, and they keep being registered to this date. As the cleaning works continue, the 95 families will continue receiving power from the Canta Central.

Enel Distribución Perú is a power company of the Enel Group, an Italian company with presence in more than 34 countries. It has 1.4 million customers in Northern Lima, Central Lima and the Near North Coast of Lima.
