Lima, October 2nd, 2018. - Enel Distribución Perú started the construction of the new Izaguirre Electrical Transmission Substation (TS) in the district of San Martín de Porres. The facility will represent an investment of PEN 42 million and will improve the electrical service for approximately 110 thousand customers. It will also meet the energy demand of large businesses such as Megaplaza and Plaza Norte.

“This project is part of our investment plan, one of the priorities of which is the continuous improvement of the quality, safety and reliability of the electrical service in Northern Lima. The works have recently started under the highest safety standards and the entry into service of the substation is slated for June 2019”, said Santos Amado, Responsible for the High-Voltage Operating Unit of Enel Distribución Perú.

The Izaguirre substation spans an area of 1109 m2 and is fitted with a 60/20/10 kV and 40 MVA power transformer. It will be supplied with high-voltage energy through an underground 2.3 km long 60 kV transmission line. For the crossing at the Panamericana Norte highway, a “Liner Tunnel” has been designed to run 50 m underneath the road, at 7 m in depth, which will prevent vehicle traffic from being interrupted.

Another major challenge is the execution of the project with state-of-the-art technology and under the highest safety and quality standards, without causing major environmental impacts and keeping disturbances in the surrounding area to the minimum. To this effect, the project design includes the use of enclosed cells with GIS technology that take up less space, have optimal installation times and increased operating reliability as they require less frequent maintenance.

The company is also working in a high-voltage substation that will start operation by mid-2019. It is the Medio Mundo TS, located in the Supe valley, that will supply energy to the Near North Coast of Lima to promote the agroindustry development in the area, including the Caral archaeological complex.

Enel Distribución Perú is a power company of the Enel Group, an Italian company with presence in more than 34 countries. It has 1.4 million customers in Northern Lima, Central Lima and the Near North Coast of Lima.
