The project is expected to be completed and put online by the second half of 2016.

Rome, 14 July 2015 – Enel Green Power (EGP) has begun construction of Vientos del Altiplano, its first wind farm, in the Mexican state of Zacatecas.

The power plant, owned by Vientos del Altiplano S. de R.L., a subsidiary of Enel Green Power, will have a total installed capacity of 100 MW and will be built in the municipalities of Mazapil and Villa de Cos, in the state of Zacatecas.

Once fully operational, Vientos del Altiplano, which will comprise 50 turbines of 2 MW each, will be able to generate more than 280 GWh a year—equivalent to the annual energy consumption needs of about 161 thousand Mexican households—, while avoiding the annual emission of over 157 thousand tonnes of CO2 into the atmosphere.

The Price of Sustainability

EGP will invest approximately 220 million US dollars in the construction of Vientos del Altiplano, in line with the growth targets set out in the company’s current business plan.

The investment will be financed through the resources of the Enel Green Power Group. The project is supported by power purchase agreements (PPAs).

In Mexico, Enel Green Power has a total installed capacity of about 400 MW, of which 346 MW come from wind power and 53 MW from hydropower.
