Lima, 12 December 2015 – The company was granted the award in the category “Management of Local Development”.

The work done by Enel Peru’s sustainability team is improving the life expectancy and development conditions of children from five communities in Junín thanks to the “Promotion of Integral Health and Fight against Child Malnutrition” programme.

Since 2012, the health project has benefited more than 145 children aged 0-10, who get regular check-ups, school breakfasts, vitamin supplements and a greater intake of proteins. Malnutrition and anaemia cases in children have decreased by 57% and 80%, respectively.

The comprehensive programme includes the construction of five first-aid stations for full-time medical attention and free medication, water and drainage networks and bathrooms in every home, and the organisation of health talks and workshops involving parents.

The health programme is aimed at the entire province of Chanchamayo and it is spread through spots on local radios that raise awareness about prevention and health care.

As a result of this effort and dedication, Enel Generación Perú was granted the Sustainable Development Award 2015 in the category of “Management of Local Development”, recognising the company’s active work for the development of communities near its premises.
