Lima, 17 November 2016 – The company will invest about 170 million dollars in the construction of the plant. Enel, through Enel Green Power Perú—its Peruvian renewable energy subsidiary—, has begun construction of Rubí, the first photovoltaic solar power plant built by the Group in Peru. Once completed, it will be the biggest solar power plant in the country, with an installed capacity of 180 MW.

“The construction of Enel’s first solar power plant in Peru strengthens and diversifies the presence of the Group in the country and confirms its commitment to keep investing in the growing Peruvian renewable energy market”, stated Francesco Venturini, Enel’s Head of Global Renewable Energies.

Rubí, located in Moquegua, will be able to produce around 440 GWh a year—equivalent to the annual consumption needs of about 351 thousand Peruvian households—, while avoiding the annual emission of more than 267 thousand tonnes of CO2 into the atmosphere.

Millionaire Investment

Enel will invest approximately 170 million dollars in the construction of Rubí. The project is financed through Enel Group’s own resources and is supported by a 20-year power purchase agreement signed with the Peruvian Ministry of Energy and Mines.

Rubí is expected to become fully operational by 2018. The energy produced will be delivered to the Peruvian Transmission Network (SEIN) through the Montalvo substation.
