Enel Distribución Perú Spends Over One Million Soles on Replacing Crashed Power Poles

Between January 2015 and May 2016, 850 damaged power poles were reported.

Lima, 4 August 2016 – Enel Distribución Perú, a company that provides energy to over 1.4 million customers in Northern ​​Lima, allocates over one million US dollars a year to replace power poles damaged by car accidents.

A Danger to Residents

Residents suffer the consequences of these accidents. Crashed poles might fall on pedestrians, causing serious injuries or even death; and temporary blackouts increase the perception of insecurity.

In order to address these emergencies, Enel Distribución Perú encloses areas and makes use of heavy machinery, generating however great discomfort to residents and traffic in general.

Consequences to the Company

Excluding material damage, each time a power pole is collided or knocked down, Enel Distribución Perú sends out an emergency team of seven people. They have to leave for a moment their scheduled maintenance work and other important activities, according to Johnny Díaz, Enel Peru’s Chief of Operations.

Prompt Assistance

Even if Peruvian legislation grants seven days for the replacement of damaged poles, Enel Distribución Perú delivers within 24 hours.

“We reach the place in almost two hours to adopt security measures so that people can feel safe”, said Díaz, who urges people to call customer service at 517-1717.
