Enel Green Power Begins Construction of Chile's Largest Photovoltaic Plant

The plant, located in the Chilean region of Antofagasta, will be completed by the first half of 2016.

Rome, 9 July 2015 – Enel Green Power (EGP) has begun construction of the new Finis Terrae photovoltaic plant. With a total installed capacity of 160 MW, it will be the largest solar photovoltaic plant in Chile.

Once fully operational, Finis Terrae will be able to generate over 400 GWh a year—equivalent to the annual consumption needs of some 198 thousand Chilean households—, while avoiding the annual emission of more than 198 thousand tonnes of CO2 into the atmosphere. The energy produced will be delivered to Chile’s Northern Region Transmission Network (SING).

Innovation at Any Price

EGP will invest approximately 270 million US dollars in the construction of the new plant, in line with the growth targets set out in the company’s current business plan. The project will be financed through the resources of the Enel Green Power Group.

The project is supported by a power purchase agreement (PPA) with Empresa Nacional de Electricidad S.A. (Endesa Chile).

In Chile, EGP currently operates a portfolio of plants with a combined installed capacity of about 600 MW, of which 340 MW come from wind power, 154 MW from photovoltaic power and 92 from hydropower.
