Electrification projects have benefited more than 500 thousand people.

Lima, 26 February 2013 – Enel Distribución Perú investments hit their own record in 2012 with 295 million soles, mainly aimed to improve and expand electrification projects, meet the increasing energy demand, provide security through improved street lighting and contribute to energy supply safety.

Over the last five years, more than 100 million soles have been invested in projects of electrification in order to impel the economic development of less favoured communities. For this reason, in 2012, 60% of Enel Distribución Perú's new customers were from shantytowns.

More Communities Benefited

Recently, Peruvian President Ollanta Humala inaugurated the rural electrification of the communities of the Chillón River Valley in Lima, which benefited more than 12,471 people.

The initiative was financed by the Peruvian State and Enel Distribución Perú in the framework of the process of Rural Electrification promoted by the government to bring electric service into remote communities. The investment of almost 8 million soles allowed the electrification of 42 communities in the Chillón River Valley.
