Enel is the only utility included on Fortune magazine's Change the World list.

Rome, 28 August 2015 – Enel has been included among the top five companies in the world on Fortune magazine's Change the World list, which ranks companies that are addressing major social problems as part of their business strategy.

Enel Group ranks 5th among 50 companies chosen by the magazine, and is recognised for “removing barriers for the development of clean energy”.

Awarded for Renewables

The magazine praised Enel for leading the development and implementation of renewable energies, as these revolutionary changes are often driven “by start-ups, rather than well-established large groups”.

Fortune highlighted the fact that in 2014 the Enel Group generated 38% of its electricity production from renewable sources, a figure that will increase to 48% over the next four years. It also acknowledged Enel CEO Francesco Starace’s commitment to reaching zero carbon emissions by 2050.

“We are very proud that Fortune has recognised the important role of the energy industry in promoting progress in the world and, in particular, Enel's leadership in the sector”, said Starace when he heard the news. He added that Enel's role is to ensure energy supply is available for all and sustainable in the long term.
