With four decades in the company, Andrés Ciudad Campos has become a dad again. “I am young inside”, says this electrical engineer from the UNI as he smiles. He started with us as a labourer, because he had to help provide for his family and pay for the education of his three sisters.
Today, he is Head of Third-Party Security. Andrés says that, “through ignorance, our clients recklessly build the roof eaves of their houses too close to the medium voltage line. My job is to detect these irregularities in time to arrive with a preventive message”. His work is delicate and very complex, because in our concession area the construction of unlicensed housing is very common. As a result, houses are built without taking the minimum security measures.
In view of this, Andrés Ciudad devised two campaigns: “The Look that Saves” and “The Voice of Conscience”. For the first, two motorcyclists cover our more than 1,300 km of MV power lines with the mission of identifying informal construction situations in time. The second implies a joint work between Enel and district councils, in order to reach out to local leaders to explain to them the risks involved in building without following the rules.
