Lima, September 27th, 2022.- · Enel X, the Provincial Municipality of Arequipa, the Integra Arequipa Consortium, the company Motores Diesel Andinos S.A. (Modasa), and the power distributor Sociedad Eléctrica del Sur Oeste S.A. (SEAL) have established an alliance to incorporate the first electric bus into the city's Integrated Transportation System.

This electric bus will circulate in a section that connects the north and the center of Arequipa, it has a capacity of 85 passengers and, according to Modasa calculations, this model will reduce CO2 emissions by up to 80 tons in one year. The unit has an integrated passenger counting system, a Wi-Fi network, seats equipped with USB chargers, an air conditioning system with a filtering system, and a UV light that purifies the air. In addition, the bust promises savings in maintenance and fuel consumption, with a 50 to 60% reduction in related costs.

To make this initiative a reality, Enel will install a 60kW DC electric charger, one of the chargers that are part of Enel X's portfolio of solutions and services for electromobility. The charger has the capacity to serve two electric vehicles at the same time and provides a full charge in approximately 40 minutes.

This efficient recharging solution will be located in SEAL facilities, in the Cerro Colorado district, to provide recharging to Modasa's e-Bus, which will be covering the route that goes from Cerro Colorado to Socabaya. This route spans over approximately 36 kilometers, which means that the bus would be traveling about 250 kilometers per day.

With this first milestone for public transport in the region, Enel X, Integra, Modasa, and SEAL, with the support of the Provincial Municipality of Arequipa, seek to continue contributing to the energy transition towards efficient and sustainable mobility of public and private transport .

“We are proud to be part of this milestone for public transportation in Arequipa. We trust that this is only the first step towards sustainable transportation in the region. At Enel, we seek allies to achieve this change through our modern charging solutions, which are part of a complete portfolio that includes financing, design, implementation of charging yards, and maintenance of electric vehicles” , said Marco Fragale, Country Manager of Enel Perú.

“At Enel X, we are confident that this first bus will be the steppingstone to materialize a project for a fleet of more than 100 e-Buses for the city of Arequipa, which will strengthen the Comprehensive Transportation System with a sustainable alternative for the citizens", said Pilar Matto, General Manager of Enel X Perú.

It is worth mentioning that, between 2019 and 2020, there was an Integra SAC electric bus in circulation, which served as a test to determine if the units could function in Arequipa’s road infrastructure. This test had a satisfactory result.
