- The project initiated by Enel X, a commercial line of Enel Distribución Perú S.A.A., aims to renovate more than 38,000 public light sources in the company's concession area on the near north coast of Lima (Norte Chico) throughout 2021.
- With an investment of more than 35 million soles, the project is scheduled to be completed in December of this year.
Lima, August 22nd, 2022.- Enel X continues with the development of the public lighting renovation project in the Norte Chico of Lima, so far benefiting more than 200,000 residents of the districts of Huacho, Santa María, Huamay, Caleta de Carquín, Huaura, Supe Pueblo, Supe Puerto, Barranca, and San Miguel de Acos.
“We started this project in 2021 with the installation of 5,000 lights with LED technology in various districts of the Norte Chico; and by June of this year, we had advanced with 40% of the project, which is equivalent to more than 15 thousand lights. In the following months we will continue with the renovations in Pativilca, Chancay, Huaral, and the Province of Canta, with the aim of completing the project by the end of December of this year and benefiting approximately 488 thousand people who reside in the area,” said Pilar Matto, Manager of Enel X.
The energy efficiency project, carrying an investment of more than 35 million soles, seeks to modernize the public lighting of the Norte Chico through the replacement of sodium lamps with LED lamps, which will improve the lighting in public spaces, increasing the perception of security and improving the quality of life of citizens.
Thanks to LED technology, the pathways achieve almost twice the illumination and provide greater visibility of things, with greater definition and color than traditional lighting. In addition, this smart lighting technology generates less light pollution, since the LED luminaires, with their flat diffusers, illuminate only the public road, which prevents light from being lost towards the sky.
In this way, Enel X contributes to the formation of circular and smart cities, complying with the Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 9 - Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure, 7 - Affordable and non-polluting energy, and 12 - Responsible production and consumption.
