  • The company will allocate more than US$ 260 million to execute both projects, located in Ica and Moquegua, respectively.
  • These plants join Wayra I and Rubí, built by Enel Green Power Perú in 2018, in promoting renewable development and the country's energy transition.
  • The plants will prevent the emission of more than 350 thousand tons of CO2.

Lima, June 3rd, 2022. Enel Perú, through Enel Green Power Perú, initiated the construction of its two new renewable energy generation plants, the Clemesí solar power plant, in Moquegua, and the Wayra Extension wind power plant, in Ica. These power plants will add green energy to the National Interconnected Electric System (SEIN, by its initials in Spanish), thus contributing to the country's energy transition.

The investment dedicated to the Wayra Extension Wind Power Plant amounts to US$ 188.5 million and will include the installation of 30 wind turbines to reach a total installed power capacity of 177 MW. On the other hand, the Clemesí Solar Power Plant received an investment of US$ 77.9 million and will include the installation of more than 200,000 bifacial solar panels that will take advantage of the existing solar potential in the area. This way, the Clemesí plant will reach an installed power capacity of 122.59 MW. Both plants are expected to start operating in 2023 and will prevent the emission of 385,000 tons of CO2 into the atmosphere.

“At Enel, we continue to bet on Perú, and with the start of the works in Wayra Extension and Clemesí, we seek to continue leading the country's energy transition process. These projects diversify the energy matrix, strengthen the reliability of the system and contribute to reducing greenhouse gas emissions, which is one of the objectives of Enel and the country," said Marco Fragale, Country Manager of Enel Perú.

Likewise, the construction of these plants will contribute to the revitalization of the economy in Ica and Moquegua, since these projects will create jobs in these regions, both in the construction and in the activities around them.

Implementation of new technology

Both Wayra Extension and Clemesí will implement new technology to take leverage the weather conditions in the area. “In Wayra extension, we will install wind turbines rated at 5.9 MW, which means more power per turbine, allowing us to install fewer wind turbines in total. On the other hand, the panels to be installed in Clemesí will be bifacial. These panels perform better by capturing solar energy on both sides, allowing an optimization of the facilities and generating more energy than monofacial panels," added the executive.

Wayra Extension and Clemesí join Wayra I and Rubí, the largest wind and solar power plants in the country, respectively.
