Lima, March 1st, 2021.- The thermal plant team of Enel Perú's Power Generation division is executing the major maintenance operations of the steam turbine of the Ventanilla Thermal Power Plant. This maintenance marks a milestone for the Ventanilla plant as, in accordance with the technical and regulatory requirements, it is the first time these operations are underway after over 100,000 hours of operation since the turbine’s commissioning in 2006. The works seek to extend the life of the steam turbine by another 100,000 hours of operation and guarantee the reliability of the unit.
The project includes the complete inspection of the steam turbine and all of its high, medium, and low-pressure blades, as well as the inspection and maintenance of the steam control valves in the turbine. The scheduled works will be executed in a period of 70 days and will benefit from the active participation of approximately 30 contractors working double shifts, with the main contractor being SIEMENS, the manufacturer of the steam turbine. It should be noted that, in the execution of these works, all the safety and prevention measures against COVID-19 have been fulfilled, including social distancing, segregation of personnel, use of PPE equipment, among others. To date, 0 accidents and 0 infections have been recorded during plant work.
Currently, maintenance is finishing the 3rd week of work, and it has already reached several milestones, such as the dismantling of all the superstructures and pipes located above the turbine and of all its components, which implicated a total removal of casings and rotors from the steam turbine.
“This maintenance represents a new milestone for the Ventanilla Thermal Power Plant, as it is the first time that a maintenance operation of this magnitude has been carried out in the thermal fleet that exists in Peru. Likewise, these works have been in planning since 2018 and have benefited from the participation of various areas, global and local, of Enel working as a single large team of highly specialized personnel in their respective areas”, said Rigoberto Novoa, Head of Peru CCGT / Oil & Gas.
