Francesco Starace highlights the contribution of Enel Group to achieving UN Sustainable Development Goals.

New York, 28 September 2015 – Enel’s CEO and General Manager Francesco Starace has announced the Group's intention to achieve four of the seventeen United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. He made the statement at the United Nations Private Sector Forum 2015 held in New York.

Enel undertook to achieve the seventh UN Sustainable Development Goal by pledging to guarantee access to affordable, sustainable and modern energy through its ENabling ELectricity initiative that will benefit 3 million people in Africa, Asia and Latin America.

With actions aimed at achieving zero emissions of carbon dioxide by 2050, Enel will also contribute to the thirteenth Goal, which involves taking urgent measures to fight climate change and its impact.

Starace pointed out that the electricity sector is essential to economic and social progress, as it boosts production, increases job creation and improves education and health care.

Commitment to Education

Quality education, the fourth UN Sustainable Development Goal, is a priority for Enel. The company will support educational projects that will benefit 400 thousand people by 2020, through initiatives similar to programs such as Powering Education in Kenya or Ubuntu in South Africa.
